Which is Better: Existing or New?
Most homes for sale in the Calgary real estate market are resales; however, one out of every four homebuyers will choose to buy a new home. Calgary home builders and related trades people have constructed thousands of new homes in the past ten years. As a buyer, the question you need to ask yourself is, which is better? To buy an existing home, or a new one?
The answer to this question depends entirely on your housing needs. There are advantages to both old and new homes. Older homes are often less expensive, and are usually found in established neighbourhoods with mature landscaping. Whereas new, energy efficient homes offer modern architecture and the added benefit of allowing you to choose finishing details and upgrades. In short, everything is new.
The choice you make depends your taste, finances, and family composition. You may be particularly attracted to character homes, and would be happiest living in a residential neighbourhood close to the urban core.
Or maybe you would prefer to live in a newer subdivision in quieter part of Calgary. Show homes in new communities provide good examples of what you can expect to find when hunting for a newly built home.
